This week, Jeff became an official member of the bar.  You can pinpoint the exact moment Jeff became a lawyer in the above video.  As if four years of college, three years of law school, countless hours of studying, mounds of paper work, a background check, an interview, and the bar exam weren’t enough – Jeff now had to appear before the Supreme Court and be admitted on motion.  Then, after everyone was admitted, the new attorneys were sworn in by the Justices with an oath to protect and defend the Constiution.

Just doing my part to bring you the latest in citizen journalism.  As most of you know, we live close to Belmont University, site of the second Presidential debate.  So, I went down and checked out some of the pre-debate festivities after work today.  Up above, you can see just some of the important political figures that I met.  I was going to go back and get some post-debate shots too…but it’s raining and I’m sleepy.

We’re pretty excited about Tuesday’s Presidential debate at Belmont University.  We were hoping to get some good pictures today, but they already have the area blocked off.  We’re expecting some snipers to be stationed on our roof on Tuesday night…

We had heard it was going to be nice weather this weekend, so we planned a trip to the zoo. Nice weather during the summer in Nashville is very rare ( 85 degrees instead of 95 and 90% humidity). I’ve only been a couple of times since Lincoln was born so I thought since he was a bit older he would have more fun. I think he did. Maybe. He really liked the petting zoo. For the most part he just studied each animal. We got their when it first opened which was nice because some of the animals were being fed, so they were out and about. (It gets kind of boring when all the animals are sleeping or hiding under a rock).  We just wanted to share some of our zoo pictures with you.

Jeff finally gave up on trying to get Lincoln to turn around and look at the zebras.

This is me trying to take a picture and couldn’t get my camera to focus on the right subject.

Lincoln was pretty focused the whole zoo trip until we got to this goat. The goat sneezed and Lincoln couldn’t stop laughing.

Me and Lincoln looking at the map.

Jeff and Lincoln checking out the elephants.

Here are some pictures of the animals just in case none of you have ever opened a book, turned on a t.v. or I guess ever been to a zoo.

Here are some random updates about our little family. We’ll start with Jeff.

(This is a very tired Jeff)

1. Jeff is working still and now studying for the bar which is in a couple of weeks. His bar class ended a couple of weeks ago. They say you should study up to 8 hours a day in preparation for the bar. Which makes me wonder….3 years of law school wasn’t preparation enough?

2. Batman is coming out in less than 2 weeks. I would say it’s safe to say that I’ve never seen Jeff so excited. Except maybe when the first one came out. I’ll admit, I share this excitement! Christian Bale is by far the best actor out there! He’s so underrated.

3. Jeff is learning how to cook. They usually involve some twist to an existing recipe. For example. He grilled fresh pineapple and made pineapple salsa and we rolled it up with our steak fajitas! Amazing! I highly recommend that one.

Me-

1. I’ve been sitting here for 10 minutes trying to think of something. Not much is coming. The boys are more exciting anyways.

Lincoln-

1. Lincoln is jibber-jabbing away. He has learned a few words and for the most part is a pretty polite kid. He can make a few animal sounds and sings his heart out.

2. Lincoln has become quite attached to his diapers, and not the clean ones. After I change him and roll up his messy diaper, he will grab it and run off. This morning after I threw away his diaper in the kitchen trash, 15 minutes later I went into his room and saw the very same diaper in his bedroom trash can. At least it went back into another trash can.

3. I can’t rock my baby anymore. I used to pace with Lincoln and sing him songs as I got him settled down for bed. Now every time I try and sing, he starts to tickle me.

( This is Lincoln tickling me)

4. Lincoln loves shoes! First thing he does when he wakes up is finds a pair of matching shoes and brings them to either me or Jeff. Usually they are his red cowboy boots that Grammy & Popa gave him, or his Teva sandals that Grandma and Grandpa gave him. Sometimes he’ll try for Jeff’s shoes as well.

To our family and friends, here are some more pictures of our little man. He is 16 months old today. Chemenn took these while I was in class this morning.  And yeah, he pretty much never wears clothes anymore.  He just gets them messy anyway.

(Click on the pictures to enlarge)

Little boy loves him some watermelon.  I took most of these this afternoon at Chemenn’s primary thing in a park downtown.  He did start out with a shirt on I promise.

As you can see from that last picture, Lincoln went up and hugged his Mom right after eating about seven pieces of watermelon – with all that sticky watermelon juice on his hands.  Good thing Mom wore white shorts, huh.

Lincoln is at that age, the house is no longer fun anymore.

Congrats to Jeff. 3 years of Law school. 19 years of school? That wasn’t so bad now was it? I’m proud of you honey.

Here we all are at Graduation. Jeff’s parents and sister drove up from El Paso to support him.

I admit when I saw him at this point, I cried. What an accomplishment. I just can’t say it enough how proud I am.

Here is Robin walking with Lincoln.

How do I look? Jeff called it his chef boyardee hat.

 Congrats to Peter as well!!

After the ceremony we asked Jeff what he wanted to do. He said all he wanted was to have a burger and shake with his family. Easy enough.

Later that night, Jeff’s parents took us to a really nice dinner to celebrate.

Today has been a good day. It was beautiful weather and Nashville is getting greener by the second. I talked to my friend Kristie in Cleveland who I miss like mad. Lincoln is walking now and it’s the coolest thing ever. I never thought seeing my son walk would affect me the way it does. I’m just so proud! On with my 3 things that make I’m happy/grateful about!

1. The Internet. What was the world like without it again? My parents are visiting Petra. For those who don’t know, it’s that awesome temple in “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”. Which i’m sickly jealous about. The internet allows me to talk to my dad back and forth quoting dumb Indiana Jones lines.  Plus while Lincoln is napping this is where I spend my time. On the computer. For some reason I feel less guilty doing this than sitting on the couch watching t.v. At least my fingers are getting exercise.

2. I’m so grateful for parks. Nashville has the most amazing parks. There is seriously one at every corner, and each one is so unique and different. Kids are usually always happy. Parents can usually sit back and relax. Notice I said “Usually”.  Parks make me happy. It doesn’t make me quite as mad to know tax money is going to something so wonderful.

3. LOST. Because it’s finally on again tonight.

Recently at Jeff’s school, they had a guest speaker come in and talk about Law school and depression. They had a few examples of people and thier stories. Jeff came home and told me about the class and what they told these student they should do to prevent getting depressed. One of the things were to write 3 things a day that made them happy or made them grateful. coincedently I was reading a friends blog, What Would Martha Do, by Renee, and she had reserved Thursdays to write things she was grateful for. HA! Of course I told her I was going to copy her and give it a go. Jeff and I have done this on paper for a few days now and believe it or not, it works. Sometimes you usually end up saying the same things so you have to get creative.

(Click on the pictures to make them bigger.)

1. My husband makes me happy! No, i’m not just putting him down first because I would look like a jerk if I didn’t, he truly, truly does. He listens, He loves, He makes funny faces, he smells good, he looks good, he is smart, he is patient, he all around puts up with ME! Bless his heart, he even takes out the garbage without being asked. (actually only a few times, but it really, really, really makes me happy).

2. My son, Lincoln. Cliche or not, I don’t care, that kid is freaking awesome! There have been some real downer days and the innosence of a 14 month old little boy trying his hardest to put on his socks and shoes, and comb his nearly bald head is enough to make you laugh and cry. I am truly blessed with such a huge ray of sunshine in my life.

3. Springtime. It’s warming up, the trees are sprouting and flowers are growing. Time to spring clean the house and declutter. The air is still dry, crisp and fresh. I get to let Lincoln roam the parks. I really love Springtime in Nashville. Summer not so much. But it’s not about what I don’t like. So Spring, stick around for awhile.

All day today traffic has been insane around our house – and we have been wondering exactly what is going on. As the day progressed the traffic got worse and the streets surrounding our area became very full with parked cars.  And there were limos everywhere. We quickly figured out that the Country Music Awards were being held at Belmont University-just one block from our house! Ha! Sweet, so after I picked up Jeff from school, I fixed dinner to go for Lincoln and put him in the stroller and took off down the block. We kept hearing cheers and screaming so I wanted to get there as fast as we could. What if it was Reba Mcintyre! (that’s about all I know in the Country Music scene).

As soon as we got down there a couple fans told us that we had just missed Carrie Underwood, Tim Mcgraw, Faith Hill & Brad Paisley.  We also missed the hosts of the show – Hannah Montana and her dad, Billy Ray Montana.  I asked somebody if Reba had shown up yet and they said no. So we waited. No Reba. We got some pictures of other stars that Jeff and I had no idea who they were, but we figured they were famous cause people were getting autographs from them.  The one dude in the close up is named either Brad or Ricky.  Don’t remember.  If you know the names of any of the people in pictures, let us know, because we are clueless.  We headed back and realized that a part from our camera had fallen off. Jeff told me to go ahead and take Lincoln on home and he would go back and look for it. When he went back decided to take a few more pictures and saw Paula Abdul.  Below are some pics of the event.  The only person we have identified is Paula  (and Lincoln, of course).

2nd3rdb-dayparty-084-s.jpg

Ruby & Lincoln are 1 week apart, so Emily and I decided to have a little joint b-day party with some of our friends here in our ward. It was also Emily’s b-day and mine as well. Emily made a gorgeous cake and I made the jumbo, not nearly as cute cupcakes. Jeff and I love getting together with our friends here. I would say Jeff for the most part kicks off the conversation in politics and usually that’s what the guy’s remain talking about. The gals cover everything else. It’s fun, and i’m getting really sad that everyone is coming to the end of school now. So that means moving away. It’s exciting , but sad. Anyhoo…… getting way off the topic. Ruby and Lincoln had fun with the balloons and all the bigger kids. When it came to eating their cake, I hoped to have a little better luck with Lincoln, but once again, wouldn’t touch it. Ruby made a devine mess. It was beautiful. Lincoln was happy when I gave him some green beans and oranges. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy my kid is healthy. Maybe next time.

feb132008-034-s.jpg

It’s the first time it’s really snowed in Nashville all winter. So I took this oportunity to take a picture of Lincoln discovering it. I don’t think he thought much of it.  Yes he is in socks, but he’s in 3 layers of socks! I don’t have snow shoes for the poor kid who lives in a non-snowy climate. Man….can you believe we got hit with all this snow? crazy! What’s that you say? You can hardly see the snow? rubbish……why else would they close almost every school in Tennesee today? ( I love this state)  I bet we could almost make a snowman’s head with all that snow.

Mitt Romney came to town this morning at favorite breakfast place The Pancake Pantry. He came nice and early, so the family decided to get up at 5 a.m. and journey two blocks from our house to support the future President!  See Jeff was a good sport and left 1/2 hour before we did with his buddies so he could get us a table at the restaurant. As I got Lincoln out of bed, Jeff called and said that if I didn’t get down there fast, I would miss it. Therefore Lincoln is in his jammies and my hair looks the way it does. I hope he doesn’t think we are just lazy rednecks! Lincoln did surprisingly well for staying up late last night for the Superbowl and then waking up at the crack of dawn this morning. Such a trooper. He knows what’s worth losing sleep over. We asked some random guy to take our picture above and ended up just getting the top of Lincoln’s head. We’re just learning how to use cameras here in Tennessee.

(be sure to click on pictures to enlarge, there are some good ones!)

Here we are getting Lincoln to do the famous baby/pumpkin pose.  Below are some more pictures, and one where he had a leaf in his mouth and dad had to get it out. He was more mad that dad took it out then the bad tasting leaf. Maybe it tasted good? Never really tried one.

Here we are at Cheekwood Mansion in Nashville. If you are looking for something to do and love gardens, art and history, this is a great place to check out. It was beautiful! My favorite was the Japanese Garden & the bamboo forest. Lincoln got pretty tuckered out by the end, but he likes anything that involves being outside. For a history of Cheekwood, just click here.

Grandma & Grandpa came out to visit our little family this last weekend. We had so much fun and Lincoln was of course, our entertainment! He is getting so smiley and so interactive, he is also starting to crawl! well…backwards, but it’s moving none the less. Lincoln got treated to his first steak dinner and we toured Nashville as much as we could between naps. It was such a short visit, but we’ll be seeing gradma again in a couple of months and then we’ll see them again for Christmas! (you may want to skip decorating the bottom of the tree by then mom) Check out the rest of the pictures.

(Oh…and no..I did not let my child really have steak yet)
